Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) issued the following statement after House passage of the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act, legislation she cosponsored to increase opportunities for hunters, anglers, and recreational shooters by safeguarding them against new regulations that impede outdoor sporting activities:

"For too long, federal agencies, like the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Bureau of Land Management, have encroached on the rights of hunters and anglers to carry on the tradition of using federal lands for hunting and fishing and other outdoor sporting activities. Not only are these activities a rich part of our history, but they are a critical part of our economy, contributing tens of billions of dollars to the U.S. economy annually.

"Today, the House passed the SHARE Act, legislation that protects and expands American sportsmen's rights to hunt and fish on public lands without bureaucratic restrictions and roadblocks. By requiring that federal lands remain accessible to sportsmen and preventing federal agencies from regulating the type of ammunition and tackle they use, this legislation demonstrates our strong commitment to the proud traditions of hunting and angling."

The Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act of 2015 is comprised of thirteen provisions that increase opportunities for hunters, anglers, and recreational shooters; eliminate regulatory impediments and safeguard against new regulations that impede outdoor sporting activities and protect Second Amendment rights. The bill also protects the use of traditional ammunition and fishing tackle, prevents the implementation of onerous constraints on lawfully possessed ivory products and eliminates red tape associated with the importation of hunting trophies.
